There are a couple of top 10 lists, the first from the AAP wire service:

2. Howard stays/Beazley dumped
3. Deaths of Steve Irwin and Peter Brock
4. Beaconsfield rescue
5. Terrorism - David Hicks, foiled British plot, release of Jihad Jack Thomas, etc
6. AWB scandal
7. World Cup
8. Climate change
9. Trouble in the Pacific Islands
10. Media shake-up
The second list was compiled by Media Monitors, and lists the top ten stories as measured by coverage in all Australian media:
1. Iraq
2. AWB scandal
3. Lebanon war
4. Petrol prices
5. East Timor
6. Interest rates
7. Industrial relations laws
8. Climate change
9. Bali Nine trials
10. Beaconsfield rescues
