Australian's Life Expectancy Reaches New Highs
December 5th 2006 03:48
The Age reports that Australians are living longer than ever before, and life expectancy in Australia is now almost the highest in the world, exceeded only by Iceland and Hong Kong for males, and Japan and Hong Kong for females.
If you were born today in Australia you could expect to live 78.5 years for a male and 83.3 years for a female. Australian's with the best life expectancy are those in the nation’s capital, Canberrans can expect to live for 79.9 and 84 years. The Northern Territory has the lowest life expectancy.
Since 1985 life expectancy has increased by 6 years for men and 4.5 years for women. Will that rate of increase slow down, will it ever peak?

When this survey was released state papers did stories showing life expectancies in various towns and suburbs across each state and there was a difference.
Thanks for the input!
